Creative Zen Nano Plus MP3

Summary:

The Creative Zen Nano Plus MP3 Player (1 GB £ 43.20) there is available in 10 colors and is about 512 MB of flash memory to store up to 250 songs and 1GB of flash memory to store up to 500 Title.

This is a feature rich ultra-portable (size of a pen drive) MP3/WMA mobile audio solution in an attractive package and the smallest in Creative and only 32 grams this is an excellent product and 10/10!

Review:

The sound quality of MP3is very good and even better for WMA-encoded tracks, the 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 90 dB.

Although plastic, the build quality is of a high standard with a durable scratch-resistant casing. The unit will respond by 3 and reasonably large buttons: power controlled on / off (s) as "play / pause, volume up and volume down. The other functions are via a scroll wheel, which also delivered a rocker function and acts as a skipand the fast forward / backward controls. All controls can be given a run by using the thumb only.

The black on green backlit 3cm x 1 cm LCD (18 characters) interface is very intuitive and user-friendly display with 2 lines of text, where each is the main12 functions identified by a symbol. The display orientation can be configured so that reading which way up it is) instead of (one of 16 languages!.

There are 6 graphic equalizer settings - 5 presets (rock, jazz;) Classical, Pop and Normal and Custom. The Custom setting allows manual configuration of a 5-band filter circuitry for sound characteristics of the middle frequencies.

Tracks can be mounted individually or in folders in the memory as whole albums. There are 12 game modes - all the titles / single track / single folder or all folders, either in order or randomly, and play again, repeat, repeating again ..

The unit will offer a AAA battery powered routinelyabout 18-hours of playback, microphone 15 hours and 9 hours from Direct Encoding. The included Energizer battery, but only lasted about 24 hours. I prefer to use a pair of rechargeable batteries in parallel.

The device to the computer via a USB cable (Series "A" plug to mini-B jack connected to the unit) and is recognized as a standard mass storage drive connected to the computer, when powered. There is a rubber cover over the USB port on the device.

TheComputer drivers provide a very user-friendly drag-and-drop style interface with USB 2.0 support, including DRM copy-protected music, allowing you to easily transfer music, even over a low USB 1.1 for Windows 98 PC.

The driver software is unnecessary for easy storage, since it is a like any other flash device can be used, but unlike some of these devices do not have a type A connection, so you need to run the interface cable with it.

Because "the playback of CD-quality" * aMinimum bit rate of 128 kbit / s is required, which corresponds to 1 minute of music per megabyte, so that 1 gigabyte is 8 hours worth of CD quality music which is more than 200 songs. Coding at 64 kbit / s provides 500 titles advertised capacity.

* In response to criticism from those who should know better I know this is not a true comparison of "CD quality" in relation to an MP3 player, I think, better than cassette, but not studio quality, of course .

Good stuff:

1) Built-inCondenser microphone recordings in 8 kHz, 4-bit mono wave format.

2) A built-in FM tuner with 32 presets and auto-scan;

3) Internal FM recording and recording synchronized, so that you do to a DAB radio and timed recordings;

4) Line-in real-time MP3 encoding at 96, 128 or 160Kbps for direct connection and recording from any audio source with line or headphone jack;

5) Simple drag and drop music and data files. No computer required, which alsoallows the use of other sources as an audio CD;

6) 18 hours or longer battery life;

7) Works as an industry standard flash drive, it can store data files such as photos and presentations;

Bad stuff:

This is an excellent product and the only negative comments I have are quite superficial, and it should be noted that we seem to have computer science freaks a genetic tendency toward senseless trifles!

1) From the switch will take up to 15 seconds to load, andOperation, depending on the capacity;

2) The included headphones are good enough, but does not do justice to adequately do so, the sound quality;

3) as a flash-based player, it would have been nice to have a direct USB connection - now, there are those who appear retractable seems no reason not to;

4) The Rocker / scroll wheel is a little tricky, lock and over-sensitive and can;

5) Once the folder is played the first song in the folder, rather than supplyto browse a chance without playing;

6) I've noticed the odd random 0.3 seconds "skip" during playback - this seems to occur about every 6 hours after administration;

7) I would so like to come with a rechargeable battery, charged via the USB cable would;

8) The device can not be connected to a computer to provide power during the recording from the microphone or direct encoding;

9a) folder and title are, in descending alphabetical order by organizedOnly file name, and the device displays the file name only for a second then switches to the encoded track title, could be quite different. This may seem confusing rate with large amounts of files organized with real names;

9b), while a computer is not necessary, except for the ability to delete files, organize, there is no interface or name directly recorded files, each coded with a "book" folder written and named EN001 gradually up toEN999, and a "record folder files called VOIC001 to VC999;

10) Voice recordings are encoded as WAV files, I would be the possibility to use like MP3 encoding;

11) There is a 1.8 seconds delay in the start and stop a direct admission;

12) The device is directly encoded at a maximum of 160bkps, I do not consider this a real problem but users are becoming accustomed to quality and complete encoding WAV PCM output dough. :-)

13) Direct encoding requires a non-standard --Adapter (3.5 mm to 2.5 mm mono plug to plug lead).
